The stone was an object of worship, a valuable material used to make ornaments, and an element of seals or even instruments. How did it get so popular? Lapis lazuli was believed to be the mineral that adorned the neck of Ishtar, one of the most important divine figures in Mesopotamian mythology. You will also find lapis lazuli on the golden mask of Tutankhamen as well as countless artifacts from ancient Egypt, which leads us to believe that it was adored and valued there too.
